Pink Sugar Popcorn - Grandma Ellen

2 cups sugar
2/3 cups half & half or whole milk
1 tablespoon white corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
few drops red food coloring
6 quarts popcorn, popped

Place sugar, cream, corn syrup and salt in a sauce pan on medium heat.  Stir well.  Cook until the sugar has completely dissolved.  Bring to a boil on medium heat. Continue to cook stirring occasionally until reaching 230 degrees or just before the soft ball stage.  Add vanilla and food coloring.  Mix well.  Pour over popcorn and stir until well coated.  Spread on a flat surface to let allow to cool and dry out.
